Getting started

Register, set up your profile and find your way around.

1. Get the app, or open it in a browser

FieldOps runs on Android phones and tablets, on iPhone and iPad, and in any modern browser. Use a phone in the field: the phone apps are the ones that keep working without a signal.

2. Register with your phone number

  1. On the sign-in screen, tap Don't have an account? Sign Up.
  2. Enter your full name and choose a username: it is how people find and mention you (for example @amina_bello).
  3. Add your email address and position if you like. Both are optional, but the email is how we reply to problems you report.
  4. Enter your mobile number with its country code. We text you a six-digit code; type it in. On many Android phones the code is read for you.

That is the whole sign-up. Nobody has to approve your account. Next time, and on any other device, just enter the same number on the sign-in screen and type the code we send.

No code arriving?Check the number and country code, wait a minute, then ask for a new code. In a browser you may be asked to tick a "not a robot" check first.

3. Finish your profile

Tap your picture at the top of the home screen to open your profile.

  • Photo helps your team recognise you on the timeline, in chats and on live trips.
  • Position (for example "Site engineer") shows next to your name.
  • Email is optional, but add it if you skipped it at sign-up and want replies to problems you report.

4. Find your way around

The home screen has three tabs along the bottom:

TabWhat is there
ProjectsYour projects and groups, ordered by recent activity, and any invitations waiting for you.
MessagesYour conversations, status updates from your contacts, and the button for a new message, group or broadcast.
CallsYour call history, the dialpad, and group calls.

At the top are search (groups, projects and people) and the bell for your notifications. A small dot on your picture shows whether you are online or offline.

5. Allow what the field needs

FieldOps asks for each permission when a feature first needs it:

  • Location for the map, form GPS stamps, navigation and trips.
  • Camera and microphone for photos, video, voice notes and calls.
  • Notifications so messages, calls and mentions reach you.
  • Contacts (optional) to see which of your contacts already use FieldOps.

Next: create your first project.
